Life Sketches

1. Nephi was born in Nauvoo IL just before the Mormons were driven out. In 1867 at 21, he began a mission to England which he started by walking to Colorado to catch a train. On the way they were attacked by Indians who stole their horses. Afterward he married Hannah Phillips and they had 9 children. He worked in the business department of the Improvement Era LDS magazine. In his latter years he was president of the Northwestern States Mission from 1902 to 1909, passing away the following year.

2. Hannah was born on 7 Apr 1846 in Dowlais, Wales. There she met the missionary Nephi Pratt, whom she later married, becoming his second wife (polygamy) in 1871. They had ten children. They lived for many years in Fillmore UT, which had been the capital city of Utah (1851-1856). Hannah had a beautiful singing voice, performing solos in Church. They lived in Portland OR during his stay as Northwestern Mission President where she passed away at 62 on 21 Apr 1908.
