Jacob Ward enlisted in the French and Indian War Campaign under the Twelfth Company First Regiment of Captain Chapman in 1758. By the year 1762, Jacob was an Ensign in the Ninth Company serving with Captain Robert Durkee of Windham, Connecticut. This company fought in Havana, Cuba in late 1762. Jacob's brothers Peter, who served as a drummer, and Giles would go to the battle and pay the ultimate sacrifice for their service. Family records state that he was a General in the Revolutionary War.

Jacob and Irena had fourteen children, of whom only seven lived to adulthood. Two of them, the first and the last lived to be over 100 years old!
