He married Amanda Fisk at Winder Quarters by Brigham Young, raised 17 children. Lost his eye in an accident riding a horse near some trees and one of the branches hit his eye. It caused him great pain throughout his life. He was one of the founding fathers of St. George and to the great Stout family. Crossed the plains in 1852 with five children and his young wife, Amanda being 19years. old at the time.
